FIRE DAMAGES ELECTION EQUIPMENT WAREHOUSE - on Friday, August 27, a three alarm fire destroyed the Harris County Election Equipment Warehouse on Canino Road. All of the voting machines stored there were destroyed. The Houston Fire Department suspects arson and they're still investigating. In the meantime, the Harris County Election Department is working on alternative arrangements, perhaps borrowing e-Slate machines from other counties in time for early voting, which begins on October 2. Because all counties in the State of Texas will be voting at the same time, this will be particularly challenging. We may see precincts combined. Our GOTV efforts are going to be even more important in light of this development.
